Looking at Colour

A fleet of 300 illuminated origami boats in London's Canary Wharf
Installation "Voyage" is created by Aether & Hemera who seeks to "research the aesthetic challenges of light and its power to trigger emotions and response, creating a sense of identity or setting a mood”.
This could be an interesting way to introduce colour theory to a class group. Arranging colour in a sculptural way could give a more physical and real understanding of colour to students.

Recycled Materials in Art

Gabriel Orozco presents a two-part sculptural and photographic installation "Asterisms". Thousands of collected objects, retrieved from the shores of a natural reserve in Mexico and a playing field in New York, form the core of the commissioned work for the Deutsche Guggenheim. The idea that can be read both as a criticism of civilization and a poetic topography.

Using Shadow and Light

Artist Rashad Alakbarov from Azerbaijan uses suspended translucent objects and other found materials to create light and shadow paintings on walls. The best part is that you can easily create something similar at home – all you need is one or two lamps and some items from your desk. The stunning light painting below, made with an array of colored airplanes has found its way to exhibitions like the Fly to Baku at De Pury Gallery in London.

Pattern, Andy Gilmore

I think that this artists prints could be very inspirational for a pattern project. Patterns could be made using watercolour painted shapes that could then be layered to create geometric yet soft images. More of this artists work can be seen on his website. http://crowquills.com/
